Facsimile edition 32 woodcut maps
"Tabulae geographicae" based on Ptolemy
Printed in Ulm in 1486 (27 Ptolemaic, 5 from the 15th century)

By 2013, Verlag Rothe Drucke will print all 32 maps of the Ptolemaic edition printed in Ulm in 1486 in a numbered edition of 100 copies of each map. Hand-tinted facsimile relief prints on Canson Arches mould made paper, 200 g/m, 50 x 65 cm. These will be accompanied by a title page and six sheets with a scientific commentary by Dr Florian Mittenhuber.
The atlas used for this facsimile came into the possession of the Canton of Glarus in 1975 through the bequest of Walter Blumer. Unfortunately a former owner had the individual sheets pasted onto cardboard so that the text on the reverse is no longer legible. The effect of acid from the underlying cardboard and damage due to normal deterioration have rendered the restoration of this important atlas indispensable. In order to fund the preservation of this unique incunabulum, Glarus cantonal archives and cantonal library decided, with the help of the Verlag Rothe Drucke publishing house in Bern, to publish the atlas in a limited, hand-tinted edition of 100 copies.
